About The Position

This position coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate and works as part of a team with ancillary and non-nursing departments. The Registered Nurse (RN) Medical-Surgical assesses the patient’s condition and nursing care needs, sets goals and prescribes appropriate nursing interventions to meet the physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of patients. The RN develops individual nursing care plans, implements care plans and makes revisions as needed, and evaluates patient care outcomes. The RN collaborates with physicians and other hospital employees, administers medications, treatments and therapies, communicates with patients and oversees provision of care. The RN provides patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition and accurately documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given. Additional responsibilities include maintaining facility equipment, supplies and work areas, assisting in the orientation of new employees, coordinating and supervising activities of employees and department operations, and participating in performance/process improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
  • 1 year or less experience
  • BCLS upon completion of hospital orientation
  • Current RN license in state of practice
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and react effectively to patient and family needs.
  • Critical thinking
  • Work well under pressure while keeping calm and maintaining customer focus
  • Repetitive motion of upper body re-quired for extended use of computer.
  • Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
  • ACLS and PALS within six months of hire or transfer date to position.
