The Medical Intermediate and Intensive Care Unit (MIICU) is a progressively opening unit with flexible patient acuity ranging from Acute to Intensive Care. This unit proudly provides quality care to Internal Medicine patients of a variety of medical diagnosis including renal, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, hepatology, infectious disease, endocrine, and gerontology. The team building this unit has been recognized by AACN as a Beacon Gold Unit for Excellence. This achievement was obtained through a focus in collaborative practice, a commitment to maintaining a highly satisfied work force, and a healthy work environment which supports both novice and expert clinicians. This unit is open to new graduates who are seeking to gain experience in progressive and critical care. It is a 28 bed hybrid unit with progressive and intensive care beds focused on caring for a wide variety of adult medical patients across the full spectrum of their hospital admission. Some of the primary admission diagnoses include respiratory failure, sepsis, multisystem organ failure, GI bleeds, DKA, and significant compromise of kidney and liver failure. It provides new employees the unique opportunity to receive formal training and competencies in both progressive and critical care nursing.
