Registered Nurse (RN) Lactation Consultant - Lactation Services
About The Position
The Registered Nurse (RN) Lactation Consultant provides patient education and support for breastfeeding mothers on the postpartum unit and those with infants in the NICU. This role involves making daily rounds, Monday through Friday, and being available electronically on weekends and after hours. The focus is on assisting first-time breastfeeding mothers and those with special needs. The Lactation Consultant works collaboratively with nursing staff, medical officers, Case Managers, Childbirth Educators, Clinical Managers, and other ancillary staff to ensure continuity of information provided to patients. They are also responsible for completing unit and departmental annual skills checklists.
Requirements
- Valid, active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board for GA locations and Alabama Licensing Board for AL locations
- Current Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Certification
- Associate degree in nursing
- At least two years working as clinical nurse.
- At least two years working with lactation consulting.
- Meets requirements for RN job description
- Knowledge of current educational principles, teaching modalities, performance consultation, risk management, facilitation, and group dynamics.
- Understanding of competency-based education, licensure, and regulatory requirements.
- Must have excellent presentation skills.
- Work requires walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and bending.
- Must have the ability to speak clearly and be easily understood.
- Visual acuity and acute hearing are required.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds of weight.
- Frequent sitting and/or standing, often for long periods of time.
- Frequent walking bending, stooping, pushing, twisting, and turning.
- Occasionally lifts 10 pounds or more of office related equipment or supplies.
- Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity in reaching, grasping, and handling with repetitive use of hands and fingers in operating computer, calculator, telephone, copier, fax, and similar office equipment.
- Ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols with normal range of vision and hearing and ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Work-related stress due to volume and time constraints.
