The House Supervisor is responsible for participating, observing, and acting as a resource to staff for patient-related clinical and service problems. This role collaborates with physicians to ensure optimal patient care and effective resource utilization, and supports staff in problem-solving patient service and unit issues. The House Supervisor acts as a patient advocate by responding to and intervening in patient and visitor concerns. They initiate investigations of patient incidents and medication errors, ensuring proper documentation and corrective action plans. This role also acts as a liaison for staff to ensure processes are in place for patients to receive an optimal level of care, collaborating with nurse managers, department managers, medical staff, and hospital administration. They identify trends in system problems and notify the unit manager. Additionally, the House Supervisor assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, obtaining patient reports and evaluating patient status. They respond to public relations issues, maintain guest relations, and alert public relations and site administrators of potential patient/hospital situations. This role ensures compliance with regulatory agency standards and intervenes during the absence of the Safety Officer or Patient Safety Officer when conditions immediately threaten life, health, or property. The House Supervisor performs patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique, and must demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care.
