The RN House Supervisor provides administrative and clinical leadership for all acute care nursing units during off-hours. This role is the primary decision-maker for hospital-wide operations, ensuring that staffing levels match patient acuity and that "patient flow" (admissions, transfers, and discharges) is handled efficiently to prevent bottlenecks in the Emergency Department. A RN House Supervisor who excels in this role: Acute Patient Throughput: Coordinate hospital-wide bed management; determine appropriate placement for patients based on level of care (e.g., Med-Surg vs. ICU). Dynamic Staffing Management: Adjust unit staffing in real-time based on fluctuating patient volumes and acuity scores, often managing "sick calls" and agency staff. Clinical Escalation Lead: Serve as the first responder and coordinator for Rapid Response Teams and Code Blues across all acute care floors. Service Recovery: Act as the on-site administrative representative to resolve immediate concerns between patients, families, and physicians. Regulatory Watchdog: Monitor units for compliance with The Joint Commission safety standards and hospital policies.
