The Family Birth Center (Labor and Delivery) at University Medical Center has been a part of the birth experience for thousands of families in the Lubbock area for over 30 years, with nearly 300 babies born each month. The center features labor and delivery suites designed for comfort, allowing patients to remain in one room for labor, delivery, and recovery. It includes 17 LDR suites, 6 Triage Bays, 3 Operating Rooms, and a 4-bed PACU. Nurses in this unit gain expertise in antepartum care for high-risk patients, labor support, electronic fetal monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, breastfeeding support, newborn assessment and care, and OR/PACU nursing. Nurses adhere to the highest evidence-based quality standards in a family-centered environment. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating total nursing care, functioning in accordance with the established philosophy and directing patient care. Effective communication with other shifts and departments is crucial for optimal continuity of care.
