About The Position

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is hiring a casual Professional Staff Nurse for its Emergency Department. The ED is a state-of-the-art, 22-bed Level 3 Trauma unit that opened in 2014. It treats critically ill patients and a range of emergency medical concerns, including OB/GYN, geriatric, medical-surgical, bariatric, orthopedic, oncology, and stroke cases. Many ED nurses are trained to perform forensic exams for sexual assault. Patient volume and acuity vary and can change quickly, making the department a fast-paced, unpredictable environment requiring rapid problem-solving. The Professional Staff Nurse provides competent, empathetic patient care and treatment, using independent judgment and clear communication. The nurse builds partnerships with physicians, other care providers, patients, and families to support desired outcomes across the continuum of care. As a member of the care delivery team, the nurse helps set standards for nursing care and is accountable for its provision, while demonstrating commitment to the community and nursing profession. This casual role works rotating shifts for 36 hours every six weeks, with a minimum of one shift per schedule and one holiday per year. Hours and travel may change based on business needs. Salary is determined by education and nursing experience. UPMC describes the Professional Staff Nurse role as part of its nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement.
