About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Coordinator Stroke and Sepsis Program is a full-time, salaried position responsible for assisting in the development and delivery of stroke and sepsis continuing education programs. This role collaborates with Stroke and Sepsis Medical Directors to plan, coordinate, and evaluate education for patients, providers, nursing staff, and families. The coordinator also promotes the Stroke and Sepsis Program through marketing efforts, serves as a resource for patient care and clinical standards, and monitors departmental compliance with accreditation, legal, and Joint Commission requirements. They coordinate the development and revision of Stroke and Sepsis standards, policies, and protocols, incorporating evidence-based practices and AHA Guidelines. The role involves participation in Acute Stroke Code activations, leading performance improvement initiatives, and coordinating the Telestroke Program. The RN Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the operational efficiency of the Stroke and Sepsis Program, participating in educational opportunities, and staying current with research. They take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of their work, coordinate staff scheduling and development, and participate in PI projects. Additionally, they serve on relevant committees, actively participate in advisory groups, and create/implement delivery models for complex patient transitions. The position requires maintaining competency levels and adhering to all pertinent federal, state, and facility regulations, laws, and policies, including corporate compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Current Michigan RN license
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited nursing school
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
  • 4 years of health care experience
  • Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) (within 2 years)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and delivery of stroke and sepsis continuing education programs.
  • Plans, coordinates, and evaluates Stroke and Sepsis education for patients, providers, nursing, and families.
  • Promotes marketing efforts for the Stroke and Sepsis Program to internal and external audiences.
  • Serves as a resource to staff and external contacts on issues related to patient care, patient flow, and clinical standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitors departmental compliance with applicable requirements, including accreditation, legal, and The Joint Commission.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation, review, and revision of Stroke and Sepsis standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Incorporates knowledge of AHA Guidelines as well as emerging science and evidence-based practice into Stroke program standards.
  • Participates in Acute Stroke Code activations to ensure protocols are followed.
  • Leads and participates in performance process.
  • Assists in coordination of the Telestroke Program.
  • Monitors Operational efficiency of the Stroke and Sepsis Program.
  • Participates in educational opportunities appropriate to professional goals.
  • Remains current in research related to the stroke and sepsis patient population and systems of care.
  • Interprets and applies current research into clinical practice in cooperation with Medical Staff.
  • Attends all mandatory education programs.
  • Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timelines of work and achieves results with little oversight.
  • Coordinates staff scheduling, educational/development activities, and performance evaluations.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and analysis of PI projects and communicates findings through presentations and publications.
  • Serves on relevant Stroke and Sepsis Committees related to quality improvement and regulatory adherence.
  • Actively participates in local, regional, and national advisory groups to advance the care of the person experiencing stroke and sepsis.
  • Creates and implements delivery models for the transitions of complex patients between multiple specialties and primary care providers and between healthcare settings and home.
  • Evaluates critical pathway time frames, patient outcomes and identifies variances and corrective action(s).
  • Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills, checklists, skills labs, annual safety, and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and facility regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
