The unit is a Twenty-Five bed Med-Surg, with a reasonable 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio and a supportive manager that prioritizes patient safety and positive outcomes. The unit has a mixture of acute care, therefore having the ability to have experiences in Telemetry, occasional Pediatrics, Medical and Surgical with opportunity for growth. There are preceptor programs for new nurses to help with transition into Med-Surg and opportunities for learning/professional development such as charge nurse, preceptor, and clinical ladder program. Flexibility with self-scheduling that allows for continuing education or balance between work and personal life.

Requirements

  • Current VA or compact RN license.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises nursing and support staff during assigned shifts and ensures safe, quality care.
  • Determines staffing levels and assignments based on availability, abilities, census, acuity and workflow.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed and may take patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
  • Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of patient care and identifies issues affecting outcomes.
  • Performs role-specific duties including entering orders, performing admissions/discharges, and coordinating transfers.
