Registered Nurse (RN) Cardiac Outpatient
About The Position
The Registered Nurse (RN) in Cardiac Outpatient Services (OPS) is responsible for providing and directing total nursing care for a group of patients. This role involves assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient care in accordance with established philosophies. The RN will collaborate effectively with other shifts and departments to ensure optimal continuity of care. The Outpatient Surgery department prepares patients for surgery/procedures by assessing their physical status, providing pre-operative teaching, and assisting patients in returning to a safe physiological level post-procedure. They also prepare patients for discharge. The department follows guidelines from the American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses. Therapies include pre-operative preparation, post-operative observation, hemodynamic stability monitoring, oxygen administration, sheath monitoring and removal, and providing discharge instructions. Anesthetic agents are not administered in this department. Outpatient Surgery operates Monday through Friday from 0530 to 2200, with a standby team for unexpected weekend/holiday cases.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
- Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License
- Must maintain a current BLS certification from American Heart Association
- BSN required or must be obtained within 3 years of hire
Nice To Haves
- CPAN/CAPA certification preferred
Responsibilities
- Assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total nursing care.
- Provides and directs patient care for a group of patients.
- Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care.
- Prepares the patient for surgery/procedure by assessing and evaluating the patient's physical status via nursing assessment.
- Provides pre-operative or pre-procedure teaching/education.
- Assists the patient in returning to a safe physiological level after local, or local with sedation anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or completion of Phase I (PACU) care following general anesthesia.
- Prepares the patient for discharge home.
- Provides pre-operative preparation specific to the individual patient, diagnosis, and operative procedure.
- Provides post-operative observation and evaluation of hemodynamic stability.
- Administers oxygen and monitors pulse oximetry.
- Performs arterial/venous sheath monitoring and removal.
- Provides written discharge instructions for home care and follow-up care.
