About The Position

This Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Cardiac Cath Lab functions independently as a member of a team of Nurses, Cardiovascular Technologists, and Interventional Cardiologists. Within two procedure labs, the RN provides care to patients undergoing elective and emergent invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures. The lab also performs pacemaker and defibrillator implantations, generator changes, loop recorder insertions, tilt table tests, transesophageal echocardiograms, and cardioversion procedures. This role performs a variety of tasks to ensure patient safety and comfort, including patient assessment and hemodynamic monitoring, pre-procedure preparation, and administration of conscious sedation. The RN will provide direct patient care to adult through geriatric patient populations, addressing psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment. Responsibilities include preparing the patient for cardiac catheterization procedures, performing assessments, monitoring patients during and after procedures, setting up and maintaining a sterile field, managing paperwork (patient consent forms, lab results, procedure documentation in EPIC), and performing on the Cath lab procedure team as a circulator, scrub, or monitor. The role requires providing care to critically ill patients with the ability to function independently in a stressful situation, safely and properly providing hemostasis with or without vascular devices, routinely entering patient orders and charges, and ensuring charge accuracy. Patient/family teaching will be initiated as appropriate, and nursing care will be coordinated with other health team members. Assistance with equipment maintenance and inventory, assessing procedure room readiness, obtaining supplies, monitoring patient position, administering conscious sedation under physician direction, managing rapidly changing situations, participating in clinical decision-making, monitoring hemodynamics, understanding the use of supplies and equipment, and participating in on-call coverage are also key aspects of this position. The work environment is fast-paced, working with a highly motivated interdisciplinary team, requiring the ability to consistently provide safe, patient-centered care and handle various organizational responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university affiliated nursing program.
  • Current licensure as a Registered nurse in state of Connecticut.
  • Live within a 30 min radius of the facility for on call.
  • BLS & ACLS required.
  • ICU Experience

Nice To Haves

  • BSN graduates preferred.
  • Moderate sedation and Cath lab experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness.
  • Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the cardiac Cath lab team are met.
  • Monitors patient position and assists patient during procedure.
  • Administers conscious sedation during procedure under physician direction.
  • Effectively manages rapidly changing situations.
  • Participates in clinical decision making.
  • Monitors hemodynamics through procedure.
  • Understands use of supplies and equipment used in various procedures.
