About The Position

This position supports the Cardiac Cath Lab at UVA, which operates five labs. The Cardiac Cath Lab RN cares for patients undergoing a variety of procedures including coronary angiograms, diagnostic and interventional coronary interventions, right heart catheterizations, structural heart cases, peripheral cases, ventricular support devices, and pediatric diagnostic and interventions cases. It is described as a fast-paced and exciting work environment where the focus is on one patient at a time. The lab is part of the UVA Children’s Pediatric Cardiology & Heart Surgery program. The job description integrates the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, and the UVA Nursing Professional Practice Model, emphasizing Relationship Based Care, Expert Caring, Empowered Leaders, Lifelong Learners, Quality Achievement, and Innovation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
  • 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients.
  • Manages care and implements treatment plans in collaboration with patients, their families, physicians, and other members of the health care team.
  • Seeks and provides feedback for improved clinical practice.
  • Assumes a beginning leadership role with mentoring.
  • Cares for patients undergoing coronary angiograms, diagnostic and interventional coronary interventions, right heart catheterizations, structural heart cases, peripheral cases, ventricular support devices, and/or pediatric diagnostic and interventions cases.
  • Supports onboarding of new team members and precepts as applicable.
  • Adheres to clinical documentation guidelines.
  • Comprehends outcomes data.
  • Engages in performance improvement activities.
  • Commits to standard work.
  • Applies technologies that support patient care.
  • Actively seeks to implement evidence-based practice and new knowledge generated by nursing research.
