About The Position

The Sentara Heart Hospital, a 112-bed care facility, is #2 for Cardiology services and Heart Surgery in the State of Virginia and ranks #24 in the nation for best heart programs. The Cath Holding Department is a 30-bed unit that prepares and recovers patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, Minor Procedure Room, and the Cardiac OR for surgery. The average patient volume each day for this unit is approximately 40-50 patients. The types of procedures include Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery, and ICDs/Pacemakers. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation, along with professional performance standards.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing
  • Virginia RN License or Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible
  • BLS within 90 days of hire
  • Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
  • 1+ years of bedside nursing experience

Nice To Haves

  • Telemetry - Cardiac experience preferred
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN
  • Previous healthcare experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and recover patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, Minor Procedure Room, and Cardiac OR.
  • Perform nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation).
  • Adhere to standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
