About The Position

The Birth Center at Anna Jaques Hospital is a 12-bed, LDRP unit serving Newburyport and the surrounding Merrimack Valley. It offers private patient rooms with state-of-the-art technology and works closely with all disciplines, including its relationship with Beth Israel Lahey Health. The unit has 24/7 obstetrics and anesthesia coverage with a nursing staff of 45 and is a Baby Friendly Designated hospital with a strong focus on patient experience. The Birth Center Nurse supports the care of mothers and newborns. Anna Jaques Hospital (AJH) is a distinguished not-for-profit community hospital in Newburyport, Massachusetts, established in 1884. Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • State of Massachusetts RN licensure (or eligibility)
  • BLS Certification required within six-weeks of hire.
  • NRP required within six-weeks of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • OB experience strongly preferred.
  • BSN prepared nurses preferred.
  • 2 years of LDRP experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advocates for patients and families to ensure positive patient care outcomes.
  • Documents all changes as well as relevant information regarding patient’s response to intervention, therapeutic regimens, and patient progress as it relates to plan of care and patient’s response to teaching.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families' peers and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Includes patient, family, and caregivers in all aspects of care while ensuring that all explanations are understandable.
  • Cares for patients throughout the following phases of care: triage, labor, delivery, recovery, circulate and cesarean sections, postpartum and well newborn care.
  • Attends deliveries when appropriate.
  • Implements stabilization process according to NRP guidelines.
  • Responds effectively and professionally in a crisis situation.
  • Provides resources to assist patients and families with post-discharge needs.
