Registered Nurse (RN) - Acute/Emergency/Long Term Care - Training Opportunity
About The Position
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a training opportunity at Bella Coola General Hospital in Bella Coola, BC. This role involves practicing within a client and family-centred care model, adhering to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards. The nurse will provide care to patients/clients on the inpatient ward, predominantly older residents in a continuing care setting, and emergency nursing care to patients/clients of all ages. The position requires working independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, enhancing quality of life, consulting with other healthcare providers, demonstrating continuous improvement, expertise, and leadership in nursing practice, maintaining clinical competence, and participating in committees and research projects as assigned. The training opportunity includes the BCIT Emergency Nursing Specialty Program, with online prerequisites and full-time training. Travel to the lower mainland will be required during practicums, with expenses reimbursed according to VCH policy. Candidates must successfully complete the post-basic training education before working in the department and agree to remain with VCH as a regular status nurse in the applicable specialty area for at least 18 months post-training. Failure to do so may result in VCH seeking to recover program costs.
Requirements

- Approximately one year recent acute medical/surgical experience upon program full-time start date.
- Travel to lower mainland required during practicums.
- Successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.
- Agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.
- Must report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections as per Ministry of Health policy.
Responsibilities
- Practices within the context of a client and family centred care model, and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses as well as within the vision and values of the organization.
- Provides nursing care to patients/clients on the inpatient ward.
- Provides nursing care to predominantly older residents in a continuing care setting.
- Provides emergency nursing care to patients/clients of all ages presenting to the emergency department with a wide variety of symptoms.
- Works independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/resident/patient and/or family.
- Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers.
- Demonstrates continuous improvement and best practices approach in nursing practice.
- Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice.
- Maintains and advances own clinical competence.
- Participates on designated committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
