About The Position

Nemours is seeking a Full time Nurse - 0.75 FTE (60 hours per pay period) Registered Nurse Resident for our 5 West Hematology/Oncology/Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit in Wilmington, DE. This step-down unit provides inpatient care for pediatric patients requiring services from Hematology/ Oncology, Transplant and Cellular Therapy, and Endocrine subspecialties. Admitting diagnoses include but are not limited to leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, neuroblastomas, solid organ malignancies, sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, diabetes, and other types of genetic and immune disorders. In addition, stem cell and bone marrow donors are cared for on this unit. The type of patient care provided in this area is complex due to patient diagnosis, the intensity of therapy, the criticality of patient condition, and the extensive patient/family issues that necessitate nursing intervention. 5 West nurses are responsible for coordinating patient care as part of an inter-professional team. Nurses are required to be competent in the care of the newly diagnosed endocrine patient, and hematology, oncology, pre-, peri-, and post- transplant and cellular therapy patient including the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy. Competency is established and maintained through an internal educational process.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Eligible for Delaware State license (or compact license).
  • Current AHA Healthcare Provider (HCP) Certification.
  • PALS certification required to obtain within a year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN is preferred.
  • PALS optional (but required within a year of hire).
  • Strongly encouraged to maintain or achieve specialty certification: CPON (Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse), or CPHON (Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating patient care as part of an inter-professional team.
  • Providing inpatient care for pediatric patients requiring services from Hematology/ Oncology, Transplant and Cellular Therapy, and Endocrine subspecialties.
  • Caring for patients with diagnoses including leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, neuroblastomas, solid organ malignancies, sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, diabetes, and other types of genetic and immune disorders.
  • Caring for stem cell and bone marrow donors.
  • Administering chemotherapy and biotherapy.
  • Successfully completing and maintaining the National APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurses) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Course, the APHON BBMT (Blood & Bone Marrow Transplant) Core Curriculum, Hematology and Oncology 101, and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Flexing to other units and hematology oncology clinic as per the unit’s rotation pull guidelines as needed.
