About The Position

South Kansas City Surgicenter is seeking a Registered Nurse for its recovery room and ambulatory surgery services. The Perioperative RN provides care in both the pre-operative and post-anesthesia care phases. Before surgery, the RN assesses patients, reviews medical histories, prepares them for procedures, and helps manage anxiety. After surgery, the RN monitors patients as they emerge from anesthesia, manages pain and other symptoms, evaluates recovery, and provides discharge education and follow-up instructions. The role supports patient safety and effective perioperative care.

Requirements

• Current and valid state RN license.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• ACLS (AHA) certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
• Previous critical care or PACU experience, or a minimum of one year of on-the-job training.

Nice To Haves

• PALS (AHA) certificate preferred.
• Critical Care RN (CCRN) preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients before surgery, including reviewing their medical histories and current health status.
• Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures and address their concerns or questions.
• Ensure patients understand and follow pre-operative instructions, including fasting and medication management.
• Start IV lines, administer pre-operative medications, and complete documentation.
• Manage presurgical anxiety and administer necessary medications.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs and recovery progress after surgery and anesthesia.
• Provide post-operative care, including pain management and treatment of nausea and other symptoms.
• Communicate patient findings and status to anesthesiologists and surgical teams.
• Confirm that patients meet discharge criteria and provide post-operative instructions to patients and caregivers.
