About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for Radiology Nursing, working day shifts. This role involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. The nurse will effectively communicate patient information to the healthcare team, collaborate on patient goals, and evaluate progress. The position requires furthering professional growth according to Board of Nursing standards. The nurse will work three 12-hour shifts per week (6:30 am - 7:00 pm), totaling 36 hours, with a requirement of 2-3 weekend shifts in a 6-week period and coverage for 1 major and 1 minor holiday. The role includes a hybrid of Radiology Resource nursing and Nuclear Medicine, floating between MRI, ROCU, Pet Floro, CT, and IV Cubby, acting as a resource. Responsibilities include responding to stat calls, accessing ports, and monitoring pacemakers. Nuclear medicine duties involve cardiac stress perfusion studies, stress testing in the PET department (mostly inpatients), viability studies, brain mappings, sarcoid studies, monitoring post-IR procedures, performing Coronary CTAs, and assisting thyroid cancer patients with Iodine therapies. The nurse will also teach nuclear medicine students patient care curriculum, focusing on direct patient care, vital signs, and EKG rhythm interpretation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved discipline program
  • 1 year RN experience
  • Active RN license
  • PALS certification
  • At least one year of ICU or ED experience
  • Experience with adult patients
  • Cardiac experience

Responsibilities

  • Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
  • Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Works a hybrid of Radiology Resource nursing and Nuclear Medicine.
  • Floats around between MRI, ROCU (Recovery and Observation Care Unit for IR patients), Pet Floro, CT and IV Cubby and will act as a resource to various areas of Radiology.
  • Acts as the first to respond to a stat or rapid call, access port, monitor pace makers, etc.
  • Performs Cardiac stress perfusion studies on mostly adults but also on children.
  • Performs stress testing in the PET department.
  • Performs Viability studies in PET to test for hibernating myocardium using high dose insulin gtts combined with glucose and potassium.
  • Performs brain mappings/ stress with Diamox or adenosine.
  • Performs sarcoid studies in PET using heparin.
  • Monitors mapping patients after procedures in Interventional Radiology.
  • Performs Coronary CTAs utilizing metoprolol IV, diltiazem IV and nitroglycerin.
  • Helps thyroid cancer patients with prepping them for Iodine therapies and testing.
  • Teaches the nuclear medicine students the patient care curriculum in the allied health program, focusing on direct patient care, vital signs, and EKG rhythm interpretation.
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
