About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Radiology Nuclear Medicine department. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, VUMC is a leading institution in patient care, education, and research. This role involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. The nurse will collaborate with the healthcare team, establish patient goals, and evaluate progress. The position requires a commitment to professional growth and adherence to Board of Nursing standards. The nurse will work three 10-hour shifts (6:30 am - 5:00 pm) for a total of 30 hours per week, with a call requirement every 4th weekend for 4 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Responsibilities include performing cardiac stress perfusion studies, stress testing in the PET department (primarily on inpatients), viability studies, brain mappings, sarcoid studies, monitoring mapping patients, assisting with Coronary CTAs, and prepping thyroid cancer patients for Iodine therapies and testing. The nurse will also teach nuclear medicine students patient care curriculum, including direct patient care, vital signs, and EKG rhythm interpretation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved discipline program
  • 1 year RN experience
  • Active RN license

Responsibilities

  • Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
  • Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
  • Performs cardiac stress perfusion studies on mostly adults but also on children.
  • Conducts stress testing in the PET department.
  • Performs viability studies in PET to test for hibernating myocardium using high dose insulin gtts combined with glucose and potassium.
  • Performs brain mappings/stress with Diamox or adenosine.
  • Performs sarcoid studies in PET using heparin.
  • Monitors mapping patients after procedures in Interventional Radiology.
  • Assists with Coronary CTAs, utilizing metoprolol IV, diltiazem IV and nitroglycerin.
  • Helps thyroid cancer patients with prepping them for Iodine therapies and testing.
  • Teaches nuclear medicine students the patient care curriculum in the allied health program, focusing on direct patient care, vital signs, and EKG rhythm interpretation.
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
