The nurse is accountable to patients, families, peers, and the nurse manager. This position also requires serving as a clinical expert and professional resource, teaching nurses informally and formally, and advancing clinical practice through evidence-based integration. The role includes leading efforts to address Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI), developing and implementing performance improvement initiatives, monitoring patient and unit safety standards, coaching other nurses, and complying with regulatory activities. Additionally, the nurse will lead the development of Performance Improvement, Evidence Based Practice, or research at the unit level, performing charge nurse duties, overseeing unit orientation, serving as a unit steward, and mentoring other nurses. The role models and holds peers accountable for Health Work Environment guidelines and orients nurses to the unit's governance structure. Professional development includes serving as an expert preceptor, coach, and mentor, leading unit processes for ancillary personnel development, and actively advancing their own practice. Patient safety is paramount, requiring the nurse to ensure safety in job functions, participate in safety initiatives, take action to correct risks, report adverse events, and identify potential risks in processes and procedures.
