About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking passionate, experienced nurses to join their team and collaborate with top medical professionals. At IU Health, nurses will learn and develop their careers, advancing healthcare and delivering the highest level of patient care. The Ball Memorial adult oncology progressive care unit is a 25-bed unit specializing in the care of hospice/end-of-life care, cancer patients, patients with COPD, and those with weakness due to acute disease. This unit operates under the Team Based Acuity Adaptable Model (TBAAM), an interdisciplinary team that rounds daily with the clinical nurse to provide better continuity of care. Nursing skills gained on this unit include progressive level of care, ACLS, and chemo competency. The unit values team collaboration and has support staff available, including a bath tech on dayshift, a PRN RN on nights, and a Clinical Advisor joining in 2024. The unit staff includes traditional IU Health employees, long-term domestic travelers, and international nurses.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN).
  • Must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for hospice/end-of-life patients.
  • Care for cancer patients.
  • Care for patients with COPD.
  • Care for patients with weakness due to acute disease.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team for patient care.
  • Participate in daily rounding with the clinical nurse.
  • Develop clinical expertise in progressive care.
  • Obtain ACLS certification.
  • Obtain chemo competency.
  • Be involved in Share Governance on the unit and within the system with UBC and PNC.
