Maria Parham features a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) located on the 4th floor, which provides care for patients who require close observation as they transfer out of the Intensive Care Unit. The PCU has the capability of providing continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring. Our Progressive Care Unit holds 27 cardiac telemetry beds which monitors for heart arrhythmias and oxygenation. Additionally, the Progressive Care team has the capability of monitoring additional telemetry patients on either the Medical or Surgical Units. Summary: Provides direct patient care in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina (or compact license)
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited nursing program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (required)
  • One year of RN Hospital experience (required)
  • Active North Carolina RN license (single state) or compact required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
  • Documents patient care and monitors patient condition, communicating with care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Coordinates patient care across disciplines, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and support needs.
  • Provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, and circumstances.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
