About The Position

This role involves delivering direct nursing care to patients in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) who have complex, evolving, and acute medical/surgical conditions. The nurse will be responsible for interpreting and monitoring telemetry and cardiac rhythms, administering medications and therapies, conducting patient assessments, coordinating discharge planning, and educating patients and families.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing required.
• Active, unencumbered RN license to practice in the state of Virginia (or compact state).
• Minimum of 18 months of RN med/surg or acute care experience.
• BLS (AHA) required.
• ACLS (AHA) required.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or MSN preferred.
• New grads may qualify for Sentara's Nurse Residency programs.
• NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct nursing care to PCU patients with complex, evolving, and acute medical/surgical conditions.
• Interpret and continuously monitor telemetry, cardiac rhythms, and vital signs.
• Administer prescribed medications, IV therapies, pain management, and blood products.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and adjust care plans accordingly.
• Coordinate discharge planning and collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, and recovery.
