About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Primary Care position is located in West Palm Beach, Florida, at the West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center (WPBVAMC). The WPBVAMC provides a full range of patient care services, medical education, residency programs, and limited research to veterans throughout South Florida and the Treasure Coast. This role involves assessing, coordinating, facilitating, delivering, and evaluating care for patients from infancy to geriatrics using the nursing process. The nurse will act as an outpatient primary care aid station nurse manager, serving as the primary facilitator of clinical services and medical administrative duties, working closely with the aid station manager. Responsibilities include coordinating patient care, preparing patients for treatments and procedures, communicating effectively with a diverse healthcare team, educating patients and families, and maintaining accurate documentation. The role also involves front desk/reception duties such as patient intake, record management, database management, appointment scheduling, and order placement. Additionally, duties related to treatment rooms, immunizations, and lab areas include maintaining cleanliness, stocking supplies, performing inventory, equipment maintenance, and managing medications and narcotics.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of a Diploma, Bachelor or Master's program of Registered Nursing from a National League of Nursing (NLN) approved program.
  • Must be Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified.
  • 3 years' experience as a Registered Nurse or equivalent.
  • Continuously employed for a minimum of one year, as a registered nurse in an outpatient clinical setting.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted, RN License in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, coordinate, facilitate, deliver, and evaluate care for infant to geriatric patients using the nursing process.
  • Maintain high level of professionalism oriented toward customer service.
  • Serve as the outpatient primary care aid station nurse manager.
  • Act as the primary facilitator of clinical services and medical administrative duties.
  • Work directly with the aid station manager.
  • Coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Prepare patients for treatments and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate plans/actions and collaborate with a diverse healthcare team for the benefit of the patient, family, and organization.
  • Effectively educate patients and families regarding involvement in the plan of care, promotion of self-care, management of symptoms, and follow-up care.
  • Perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Obtain, assess, and report critical lab or diagnostic results to patient's physician in a timely manner.
  • Act on all medical and therapeutic orders in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate patient intake and flow of care through the clinic.
  • Organize and maintain hard-copy medical and dental records.
  • Manage the aid station medical database.
  • Manage the clinical appointment calendar.
  • Place orders in the electronic medical records and review plans to improve efficiency, safety and accountability of medical services and materials.
  • Assure treatment areas are clean, organized and appropriately stocked.
  • Perform routine inventory of supplies, immunization, and lab materials.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance checks.
  • Assist with ordering of supplies and equipment.
  • Assure pharmacy room is clean and organized.
  • Maintain accountability of medications and supplies.
  • Conduct monthly inventory of narcotics.
  • Develop and maintain medication labels.
