About The Position

This is a part-time Registered Nurse position in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. The role involves weeknight call only, with no weekends or holidays required. The nurse will utilize the nursing process to provide holistic patient care, assess patient needs, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate care effectiveness. This includes involving patients and families in care planning, recognizing and responding to changes in patient condition, and collaborating with healthcare team members. The position emphasizes evidence-based practice, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives. The nurse will also coordinate discharge plans, promote a culture of safety, and demonstrate ethical decision-making and respect for others. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care and possess knowledge of growth and development principles.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices
• ADN, Diploma RN is acceptable with BSN completion within 5 years of Hire date or be board certified.
• Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
• ACLS/PALS required, or PALS obtain within 6 months of hire.
• 3-4 years PACU experience or ICU /ED experience.
• Proficient computer skills, use of electronic mail and electronic medical records systems.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal), listening and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrates human relation skills with the ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians.
• Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with others.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively make critical, independent decisions.

• Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
• perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
• Position requires use of foot pedals on carts or machines.
• May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
• Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
