This role involves providing direct bedside nursing care, executing medical orders, and overseeing the functions of various support staff including Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, and others. The nurse is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan and ensuring efficient, cost-effective use of departmental resources. Key responsibilities include integrating evidence-based practices, delegating and coordinating nursing care tasks, facilitating patient conferences, and identifying patient teaching needs for ongoing care and discharge. The position also emphasizes professional growth through educational opportunities and mentorship of new employees and students. The nurse must be proficient in various assessment techniques, including cardiac rhythms and airway management, to identify issues related to anesthesia and surgery, consulting with the anesthesiologist or physician when necessary. Additionally, the role requires independent and safe use of specialty equipment such as blood glucose monitors, IV pumps, bladder scanners, ARJO lifts, and EKG machines.
