About The Position

The Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) RN role involves caring for patients across the lifespan, with daily volume varying based on operating room schedules and emergent cases. Assignments are based on daily unit needs. The PACU may recover Surgical patients in the ICU setting. Contract staff will be assigned to and expected to work Storm Teams, Hurricane Teams, and may be required to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, with pre-assignment to units as needed. The PACU is a 24/7 operation that staffs based on OR needs, recovering patients from various procedures and units including the OR, EP Lab, Endo, IR, MRI, and ICU patients needing recovery before admission. Recovery times can range from 30 to 90 minutes. Nights and weekends involve recovering and discharging Phase II patients, as well as managing overnight tower and/or ICU patients.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience required
  • Travel experience required
  • Pediatric experience required
  • Phase 1-2 PACU experience
  • Some ICU experience (1-2 ratings on checklist for a screen through)
  • ACLS certification
  • BCLS certification
  • PALS certification

Responsibilities

  • Care for patients across the lifespan, as assignments are based on daily unit needs.
  • Recover Surgical patients in the ICU setting.
  • Work Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments.
  • Report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters as required.
  • Provide observation and care for patients who have undergone surgical procedures requiring anesthesia.
  • Receive patients directly from the OR, EP Lab, Endo, IR, MRI, and ICU patients needing recovery.
  • Manage patient recovery, which may take 30 to 90 minutes.
  • Recover and discharge Phase II patients during nights and weekends.
  • Manage overnight patients, including tower and/or ICU patients.
