The Pediatric Hematology and Oncology unit at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) provides specialized care for children and young adults with blood disorders and cancers. BAMC is a 425-bed, level I trauma center and the only level 1 trauma center in the DOD. The patient age range is from birth through age 26, with oncology care extendable to age 28 if needed. Conditions treated include leukemias, lymphomas, neuroblastoma, Wilms tumor, bone and soft tissue sarcomas, brain tumors, retinoblastoma, anemias, bleeding/clotting disorders, thromboses, sickle cell anemia, and long-term survivorship care. The unit also features multidisciplinary clinics for sickle cell anemia and long-term cancer survivorship.
