Registered Nurse-Pediatric Mental/Behavioral Health, Night Shift
About The Position
The Registered Nurse supports the overall health and safety of acute youth psychiatric patients through medication administration, health assessments, infection control, documentation, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and consultation with direct care staff. This role is part of a partnership between Children's Mercy and Camber Mental Health, operating a state-of-the-art 72-bed mental health inpatient hospital in Olathe, Kansas, dedicated to providing compassionate treatment for children and teens struggling with their mental health. The goal is to meet the unique needs of each child to help them achieve mental wellness and live happier lives full of hope.
Requirements
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- 3-6 months related experience and/or training
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong understanding of child development and common pediatric mental health disorders
Nice To Haves
- Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN) or Pediatric Nursing (CPN)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent nursing degree
- Experience in school-based or educational health programs
- Training in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and 504 plans
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Responsibilities
- Complete nursing assessments and documentation within required timelines.
- Perform ongoing assessments and monitor vital signs per policy.
- Administer medications, including psychotropic and PRN medications, and document accurately.
- Monitor infection control, respond to injuries and emergencies, and provide first aid as needed.
- Communicate with physicians, guardians, and treatment teams regarding patient health.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all medical interventions, orders, and records.
- Partner with the staff nutritionist to meet patient dietary needs and report allergies.
- Participate in treatment planning, staff training, and patient education groups.
- Assist with lab specimen collection and ensure timely pharmacy coordination.
- Support safety and wellbeing by following all KVC procedures and protocols.
