About The Position

This is a Registered Nurse position in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Mary Brigh 3C/F. The PICU specializes in the care of critically ill pediatric patients across various specialties including medical, surgical, trauma, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, and pulmonary. It is a designated unit for pediatric liver and kidney transplants and bone marrow transplants. The unit cares for critical patients with congenital and complex, multi-organ problems requiring ongoing interventions. The PICU utilizes a family-centered care model with a multidisciplinary team approach and rounding system, providing 24/7 nursing observation, assessment, and interventions. The unit also has a pediatric transport team of specially educated RNs and respiratory therapists for transporting critically ill infants and children within Mayo Clinic. For new graduate nurses, applications should be submitted through the Nurse Residency Program. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice and functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, adhering to the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care. The RN provides leadership through preceptor roles, informal/formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. Delegation of patient care is based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are expected, with potential participation in committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • One year of RN experience required.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020, and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
  • One year of professional RN experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.

Responsibilities
