About The Position

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a level 2 trauma center at UMC Children’s Hospital is a 16 bed unit, serving patient’s ages 0-20 suffering life threatening illnesses or injuries. An RN in our PICU will learn and gain experience in a family centered atmosphere where medical and surgical care is provided using a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. Combining the talents of more than 30 specialists and sub-specialists, children at UMC are treated for a wide range of needs that can include trauma, general surgery, cardiology, neurology and neurological surgery, oncology/hematology, endocrinology, and burn care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License
  • Must maintain a current BLS and PALS certification from American Heart Association
  • 1 year acute care experience required.
  • BSN required or must be obtained within 3 years of hire

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS certification preferred and encouraged.
  • Pediatric CCRN or Certified Pediatric Nurse Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Registered professional nurse who assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy, providing and directing patient care for a group of patients.
  • Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care.
