About The Position

BCH Oakland Day Hospital Infusion Center serves the Specialty populations at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. The treatments include but are not limited to apheresis, chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The center consists of 14 beds, and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. This position requires the incumbent to utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with complex needs. Manages patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Recognized as a leader and clinical resource. Demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and the organization.

Requirements

  • Two (2) or more years of recent pediatric nursing experience with at least 1 year in oncology, or 2 years of other directly relevant clinical experience.
  • One (1) year of recent outpatient Infusion experience administering chemotherapy/biotherapy.
  • Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, etc.
  • Must demonstrate observational skills and the ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure.
  • Must be able to function under stress and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate effective skills in applying hospital standards in the areas of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) or more years of recent Pediatric Oncology experience as a registered nurse
  • CPHON Certification or other relevant specialty certification
  • Membership in professional organizations is recommended
  • PALS
  • Current APHON Biotherapy/Chemotherapy Provider Certification within 6 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.

  • Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
  • Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors.
  • Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Accountable to the Manager for overall work performance.
  • Demonstrates ability to delegate tasks in a style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork, seeking assistance as needed; ability to demonstrate leadership experience that supports teamwork, professionalism, high-quality patient experience, evidence-based clinical practice, or other relevant topics.
  • Demonstrates ability to remain current in professional and technical knowledge and apply this to the job; looks for opportunities for continual improvement in patient care, the work environment, and a commitment to lifelong learning in the field of nursing.
