About The Position

The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) is a Joint Commission-designated medical facility located in Decatur, Georgia, offering comprehensive medical and surgical services. As a level 1A tertiary care facility, it provides patient-centered healthcare to over 130,000 enrolled Veterans across 50 counties in northeast Georgia. Requirements

• Completed courses for nursing from an accredited program approved by either the Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
• A current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
• A minimum of three years' direct patient care experience in a post-anesthesia care environment.

Responsibilities

• Circulate and scrub on a variety of surgical procedures including general, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedic, ENT, and robotic.
• Assess the physiological and psychosocial health status of the perioperative patient.
• Work with patients before surgery to complete paperwork and answer questions to calm fears about surgery.
• Select and pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during operation.
• Manage the overall nursing care in the operating room to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
• Maintain the sterile field, surgical instruments, sharps and sponge counts, surgical scrubs, positioning, and skin preparation of patients.
• Educate patients on best practices for recovery, including pain management and keeping wounds clean.
