The Outpatient Pediatric Plastic Surgery Nurse supports care coordination and clinic visits for pediatric patients who have developmental abnormalities and birth defects in the head and face, neck hands, lips and palate. S/he functions as member of the interdisciplinary clinical team; s/he utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care. S/he uses a high level of clinical knowledge to fulfill patient needs, ensures efficient patient care, and provides patient education when necessary. The clinic nurse acts as a patient advocate and as a liaison between insurers, inpatient/outpatient services, patients/families and all other necessary healthcare services to manage and facilitate efficient and timely coordination of care. The Outpatient Pediatric Plastic Surgery Nurse is responsible for coordinating outpatient services and needs for a panel of pediatric patients and providers in the ambulatory setting. His/her responsibilities include both in-clinic procedures, managing the outpatient plastic surgery clinic flow, as well as assisting with insurance authorization and prior medication authorizations, contacting home health companies, pre-operative and post-operative counseling regarding procedures, assuring DME and other home supplies are adequate, assisting with medication refill requests, patient teaching and assisting in the overall coordination of time patient care. This position is 100% in-person onsite and requires flexibility to work at the following campuses: Oakland, San Francisco, and satellite clinics.
