About The Position

This position is for a Triage Cardiology RN in Seattle, WA, on a 33-week contract. The role covers a caregiver on leave and is open to local, non-local, and true traveler candidates. The nurse will triage cardiology patients, assess symptoms, reinforce medication instructions, and determine appropriate escalation. The patient population includes those preparing for or recovering from various cardiac procedures and may be medically complex. The role is generally ambulatory, not procedural sedation or cath lab intra-procedure nursing unless specifically trained. Urgent escalations are required for critical symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, syncope, stroke-like symptoms, uncontrolled bleeding, unstable vitals, or vascular access complications.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience working as an RN in an outpatient cardiology clinic setting and triage setting is REQUIRED.
  • RN License.
  • EPIC charting experience REQUIRED.
  • Assessment skills.
  • Medication reconciliation.
  • Obtain 12 lead EKG/ECG.
  • Obtain Vital Signs.
  • Pain assessment.
  • Patient Health Questionnaire/History/Allergies.
  • Cardiovascular knowledge including Arrhythmia interpretation, Cardiac Arrest/CPR, Hypertension, AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
  • Neurological knowledge including Altered Level of Consciousness.
  • Pulmonary knowledge including Oxygen administration.
  • Professional knowledge and skills.
  • Team collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patient calls/messages using clinic protocols and provider direction.
  • Reinforce medication instructions already ordered by providers.
  • Assess symptoms and determine appropriate escalation.
  • Escalate urgently for chest pain, new/worsening shortness of breath, syncope/near-syncope, stroke-like symptoms, uncontrolled bleeding, unstable vitals, or signs of vascular access complications.
  • Follow up phone calls.
  • Patient education, especially around lifestyle and medication adherence.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
