About The Position

Hartford Hospital Bone and Joint Institute is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to work in the Orthopedic Operating Room. This role offers the opportunity to practice at the top of your license using research, innovation, and evidence-based practices. The Bone & Joint Institute (BJI) is a stand-alone Orthopaedic Hospital focused on providing patient-centered, innovative musculoskeletal care. The OR Nurse functions as a Circulator/Scrub Nurse, organizing and administering individualized, professional patient care. Care is provided in accordance with hospital objectives, policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as AORN, ASPAN, and SGNA standards. The role involves patient teaching, incorporating age/cultural needs, and participating in quality improvement activities. The Bone and Joint Institute specializes in various orthopedic and musculoskeletal surgical interventions, including fracture repairs, joint replacements, spine surgeries, and arthroscopy. Nurses have the opportunity to cross-train to the scrub nurse role and participate in research and best practices.

Requirements

  • Current active CT RN License
  • Previous OR experience required (OR Novice nurses may apply to the OR Nurse Transition to Practice Program)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Independent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • BSN Preferred
  • CNOR certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Functions as Circulator/Scrub Nurse in the Operating Room.
  • Organizes and administers individualized, professional patient care to patients within the Operating Room.
  • Provides nursing care in accordance with the objectives, policies, procedures and protocols of the hospital and AORN, ASPAN and SGNA standards.
  • Participates in patient teaching; incorporates the needs and behavior of the patient’s specific age/cultural groups in planning and providing care.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Cross train to the scrub nurse role if desired.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration on research and best practices.
