About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for providing excellent care to a diverse patient population within our surgical service environment. The delivery care model is Team and Total Care Nursing. You will provide high quality care to patients and their families based on the philosophy and conceptual framework of Nursing at Scarborough Health Network. Contributes to creating a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff and others, working in compliance with the hospital code of conduct and the provisions of health and safety policies and legislation. Utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) and promotes a safe work environment. In this role you will engage in ethical conduct and strive to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient population and workforce. You may be scheduled at the General or Birchmount campus based on departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS
  • Wound care experience required
  • Wound Care Certificate completed/ commitment to do so 2 years is required.
  • Interest and ability to work with a diverse population
  • Demonstrated excellence in patient teaching and patient assessment
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrates excellent team building skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member in a fast paced demanding environment

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
  • Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record

  • Previous or current experience in an acute care setting
  • Advanced wound care experience
  • Ability to speak another language
