About The Position

This is a Registered Nurse position with a surgical focus on orthopedics and joints. The unit handles an average daily census of 34 patients across 48 rooms/beds. The primary diagnoses include total knee replacement, total hip replacement, and spinal fusions, with occasional medical overflow and some women's health cases such as hysterectomies. The role requires proficiency in MS/Tele Cardiac Monitoring, Emergency Response, IV therapy/Phlebotomy, and Nasal Cannula & Non-invasive airway management. Candidates must be familiar with Isolation Precautions/PPE and unit systems like Pyxis and EPIC. Frequent use of wound vacs and drains is expected. This is a 13-week assignment requiring 36 hours per week, with three 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15). There is no on-call requirement, but floating to other units and working every other weekend is required. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical Ortho.
  • Traveler experience is accepted for first-time travelers.
  • Proficiency in MS/Tele Cardiac Monitoring.
  • Proficiency in Emergency Response, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
  • Proficiency in IV therapy/Phlebotomy, including Peripheral Line Care/Management.
  • Proficiency in Nasal Cannula & Non-invasive airway management.
  • Knowledge of Isolation Precautions/PPE.
  • BLS certification.
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Total Joint Replacement.
  • Local candidates are accepted with a rate difference.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for patients with orthopedic and joint surgical needs.

  • Respond to emergencies and utilize Code teams.
  • Administer IV therapy and manage peripheral lines.
  • Provide respiratory care including Nasal Cannula and non-invasive airway management.
  • Implement and adhere to Isolation Precautions/PPE.
  • Utilize unit systems such as Pyxis and EPIC.
  • Manage frequent wound vacs and drains.
  • Float to other units as needed.
  • Work every other weekend.
