North Colorado Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse – Operations Support Specialist to support our two dynamic Medical Surgical units: Surgical Ortho Neuro (SON) and Medical Oncology Telemetry (MOT). This is a salaried, full-time position primarily scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with required presence and rounding on night shifts as operational needs dictate. This role is central to the success of our nursing teams — serving as the cornerstone of orientation, onboarding, and ongoing education across both Medical Surgical floors. The ideal candidate is a passionate nurse educator and leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to developing nursing excellence at the bedside. Surgical Ortho Neuro (SON) — 44-bed unit | Average Daily Census: 38 patients Medical Oncology Telemetry (MOT) — 44-bed unit | Average Daily Census: 38 patients Together, these units represent a high-volume environment requiring a knowledgeable and adaptable support specialist who can move fluidly between both floors.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Colorado (or compact state eligibility)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — required
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and staff development
  • Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Requires a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Minimal experience, typically gained through 0-2 years relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Surgical nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in nursing education, staff development, or preceptorship
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Education, or related field — a plus
  • Certification in Medical Surgical Nursing (CMSRN) or related specialty
  • Familiarity with oncology, telemetry, orthopedic, or neurology patient populations.
  • Bachelors degree is nursing preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate new hire orientation and onboarding for nursing staff across both Medical Surgical units
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate unit-based education programs, competency assessments, and skills validations
  • Provide direct patient care and hands-on floor support as needed, serving as a clinical resource and role model
  • Round on night shifts to assess staff needs, support new orientees, and ensure continuity of education and operational standards
  • Collaborate with unit leadership, charge nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to identify and address educational and operational gaps
  • Support the onboarding experience for travel nurses, new graduates, and experienced hires transitioning to the Medical Surgical setting
  • Assist with policy and procedure updates, ensuring staff are educated on changes in a timely manner
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and help drive evidence-based practice at the bedside
  • Serve as a clinical mentor and coach to nursing staff at all experience levels
  • Supports the on-boarding and orientation of newly hired registered nurses, career development and effective internal clinical communications.
  • Serves as a liaison between all disciplines by effectively communicating, educating and problem solving.
  • Proactively supports the quality and continuity of services throughout the healthcare systems and assists in resolution of systems issues and enforces facility/unit/department policy/procedures and standards of care.
  • Coordinates oversight of quality, risk management, safety and nursing standards and is a role model and resource person for providing quality patient care and maintaining clinical competency within the facility/unit/department.
  • Develops and coordinates system and facility initiatives to promote clinical career development and lateral nurse pathways and may lead and implement facility clinical initiatives.
  • Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, safe care; and actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, such activities may include participating in professional organizations.
