The Surgical Services unit at Bloomington Hospital has 14 operating rooms and 2 open heart rooms, performing a variety of services including cardiovascular, gynecological, orthopedic, laparoscopic, and DaVinci procedures. Nurses new to the OR will have the opportunity to learn to scrub. The ideal candidate is a hard worker, self-motivated, desires to work in a positive atmosphere, and is a team player dedicated to the betterment of the entire OR team.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN).
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Must be able to respond to on-call notice and be at the Bloomington facility within 30-minutes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience (subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer).
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Circulator RN.
  • Develop procedural skills.
  • Understand the surgical services workflow from Pre/Post, OR room, Endo, PACU, and more.
  • Refine time management skills.
  • Learn to scrub (for nurses new to the OR).
