Registered Nurse - Grow Your Own - OR (GMCH) #2026-129
About The Position
This regular part-time position will be responsible for comprehensive nursing care within the OR, Endoscopy Suite, Day Surgery, and Recovery Room as established by the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and according to policies and procedures as set out by GMCH. A “Grow Your Own” opportunity is available for nurses who have an interest in a career within the Operating Room, but do not possess the qualifications. Financial support will be available to the successful candidate with a return of service agreement. Preference through this opportunity will be given first to candidates who possess the PACU certification.
Requirements
- Current certificate of Competence for College of Nurses
- Current BCLS
- Prepared to work in all areas of Surgical Suite (Operating Room Scrub and Circulating, Endoscopy, Day Surgery, Post Anesthetic Care Unit) on a rotating basis
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Proven organizational and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member
- Ability to assume a leadership/charge role
- Understanding of evidence based practice and standards of Operating Room nursing and Recovery Room Nursing
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and willingness to actively participate in departmental educational activities
- Satisfactory performance and attendance required
- Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date
- Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired
- Must be able to respond to on call within a specified timeframe.
Nice To Haves
- Post Graduate Course in Perioperative Nursing
- Current certificate in ACLS & PALS or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire
- Post Anesthetic Care Nursing certificate/course or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
- BScN an asset
- Membership in RNAO is an asset
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care within the OR, Endoscopy Suite, Day Surgery, and Recovery Room.
- Adhere to the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Follow policies and procedures as set out by GMCH.
- Commit to successfully completing the Perioperative Nursing program and all placement hours within twelve (12) months of hire date (for "Grow Your Own" candidates).
- Work in all areas of the Surgical Suite (Operating Room Scrub and Circulating, Endoscopy, Day Surgery, Post Anesthetic Care Unit) on a rotating basis.
- Respond to on call within a specified timeframe.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Utilize proven organizational and critical-thinking skills.
- Function as an effective interdisciplinary team member.
- Assume a leadership/charge role.
- Apply understanding of evidence-based practice and standards of Operating Room nursing and Recovery Room Nursing.
