About The Position

This role involves assisting with diagnostic and/or interventional procedures or treatments in the Operating Room. The position may require 24-hour coverage for emergency procedures based on the on-call schedule. The nurse will demonstrate a working knowledge of all equipment, document patient data, and exhibit friendliness, helpfulness, and concern towards patients and visitors. Assistance to physicians will be provided in a helpful and timely manner, maintaining a cooperative relationship with colleagues and other hospital employees in alignment with St. Joseph Medical Center's values. The shift is PRN.

Requirements

Licensed as a Registered Nurse accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing to engage in professional nursing.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
Two years of Operating Room experience.
B.S., Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
Technical, clerical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care/area.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

BSN or progression to this degree.
National Certification as recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Bi or Multilingual.

Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize, and execute the patient's plan of care consistent with patient assessment data, physicians' treatment plans, and professional standards of care.
Implements measures to prevent exposure to infectious pathogens and communicable conditions.
Prepares sterile products to be introduced to the sterile field, utilizing sterile technique.
Demonstrates knowledge of supplies needed for specific procedures performed.
Performs surgical scrub and assists during the procedure.
Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of physiologic parameters and patient safety.
Performs hand hygiene to prevent transmission of microbes in support of patient safety.
Provides call coverage for emergency procedures after scheduled cases and during the weekend on a rotating basis, using self-scheduling, as needed.
Responds to emergency calls as prescribed by guidelines and or policies.
Able to perform nursing function as deemed competent during an emergency procedure.
Prepares patient for procedures by collaborating within an interdisciplinary team to provide physical and emotional support during safe patient care.
Documents all pertinent patient data and communicates with nursing personnel from various floors to report changes in patients' condition and procedures performed.
Has a thorough knowledge of all accessory equipment utilized during procedure.
Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.
Enhances the patient experience by fostering a positive relationship with customers.
Contributes to improving HCAHPS results.
Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.
