About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. This includes pre-operative assessments, intra-operative monitoring of vital signs, and post-operative evaluation. The role involves meticulous documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ensuring patient safety through participation in "Time Out" procedures and verification of informed consents. Additionally, the nurse will perform circulating duties to manage the OR environment and communication, as well as scrub duties, which include sterilizing the OR, preparing supplies, and assisting the surgical team by passing instruments.

Requirements

• Current licensed as a Professional Registered Nurse in New York State
• Critical Care experience required
• BCLS/ACLS required
• Typically requires a minimum of 1–2 years of experience in an OR or acute care setting.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelors preferred
• Basic Arrhythmia course preferred

Responsibilities

• Assess patients pre-operatively (e.g., NPO status), monitor vital signs intraoperatively, and provide immediate post-operative evaluation and recovery room monitoring.
• Maintain accurate, real-time records of the surgical procedure, medications administered, and any anomalies in patient condition within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Participate in "Time Out" processes to ensure correct surgical site/procedure, advocate for patient needs under anesthesia, and ensure all informed consents are verified.
• Manage overall nursing care in the OR, monitor the sterile field, maintain tool counts before and after surgery, and act as a communication liaison between the surgical team and other hospital departments.
• Sterilize the operating room, gather and arrange necessary supplies, assist the surgical team with gowning and gloving, and pass instruments to the surgeon during the procedure.
