About The Position

Duke University Health System is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) to join the surgical services team at Duke Regional Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative, high-performing perioperative environment while supporting Duke’s mission of Transforming Lives, Transforming Care. The Duke Regional Hospital Operating Room is a dynamic and growing perioperative unit supported by a dedicated team of approximately 50 experienced OR nurses, along with skilled Surgical Technologists and Surgical Attendants. Our team delivers exceptional surgical care across 13 Operating Rooms, 2 Procedure Rooms, and 1 Cystoscopy Room. This environment provides exposure to a broad range of surgical specialties and supports professional growth through cross-training and collaboration. Surgical Services include General Surgery (open and laparoscopic), Vascular Surgery, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology & Head/Neck (OHN), Gynecology, Robotic Surgery, and Urology. This diverse specialty mix allows nurses to continuously expand their skill set while working alongside highly engaged interdisciplinary teams. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), Nursing Diploma, or higher is required
  • Nurses without a BSN must enroll in an approved BSN program within 2 years of hire and complete it within 7 years
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Scrub and/or circulating experience required
  • Current RN licensure in North Carolina or a compact RN license required
  • BLS certification (or higher) required

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year of Operating Room experience preferred
  • Professional specialty certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for surgical patients
  • Providing advanced and specialized perioperative nursing care
  • Participating in clinical ladder advancement, education, committees, and quality initiatives
  • Ensuring compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory standards, and professional nursing practice requirements
  • Maintaining respectful, collaborative relationships with patients, families, and care team members
