About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (OR) is responsible for providing quality patient care. This includes assessing patient's clinical, teaching, mental, and spiritual needs. The nurse must recognize and address safety issues for themselves and others, and be able to safely move patients using lifts. The role requires functioning well in stressful situations with strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential. The nurse will utilize typical clinical equipment and instrumentation in an OR/ASU setting and must possess lethal dysrhythmia interpretation skills. On-call duties are required with a 30-minute response time.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current NYS RN license.
  • BLS required.
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing principles.
  • Ability to assess patient's needs (clinical, teaching, mental, spiritual).
  • Ability to recognize safety issues to self and others.
  • Ability to assess and implement use of lifts to move patients safely.
  • Ability to function well in stressful situations.
  • Good, creative, problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge in the use of typical clinical equipment and instrumentation utilized in providing a safe and/or aseptic environment in an OR/ASU setting.
  • Lethal dysrhythmia interpretation skills.
