About The Position

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients. This role utilizes strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, determine the priority of problems and needs, and implement clinical nursing interventions for acute, critical patients requiring intensive medical care. The RN develops and performs patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. The position is PRN (as needed) at West Hospital and involves a 7 am start time with shift lengths that may vary between 8 or 10 hours, including an on-call requirement.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of prior OR RN circulating experience
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • BLS Basic Life Support
  • Completion of OR internship program (preferred, not required)
  • Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred, not required)

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and/or PALS may be required within 6 months based on specific surgical department requirements)
  • CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse
  • SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates
  • Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment
  • Observe the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assist the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
  • Manage the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinate the needs of the surgical team with other care providers
  • Provide pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions
  • Other duties as assigned
