About The Position

The Registered Nurse Operating Room Circulator PRN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the framework of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis and patient outcome) in the preoperative, interoperative and postoperative phase of the surgical patient. This role requires adherence to JCAHO regulations, Standards for Nursing Care, and the Nurse Practice Act. The nurse will assess physiological and psychosocial health status, pain, and patient history, documenting all findings and care plans legibly. They will identify desired patient outcomes, establish nursing diagnoses and mutually acceptable goals with patients/families, and implement tailored nursing care plans. The role involves responding to emergencies, practicing within legal and ethical guidelines, and demonstrating accountability through flexible and safe judgment. Specific responsibilities include proper preoperative process communication, surgical case counting, aseptic technique, efficient turnover time, obtaining blood products, patient identification verification, surgical site identification and marking, and anticipating surgeon's needs. Participation in a Professional Nursing Organization is also encouraged.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse License
  • Current American Heart Assn. BLS certification
  • Current American Heart Assn. ACLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, patient outcome) in the preoperative, interoperative, and postoperative phases.
