About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Operating Room (OR) Circulator role is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcome) during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical patient's care. This position operates within the framework of the nursing process and adheres to department policies, JCAHO regulations, Standards for Nursing Care, and the Nurse Practice Act. The role involves comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in nursing, including assessing patients' physiological and psychosocial health status, pain assessment, completing patient histories, and communicating pertinent information to ensure continuity of care. The RN is responsible for accurate and legible documentation, establishing nursing diagnoses, setting mutually acceptable patient/family goals, and formulating and implementing care plans tailored to individual needs. The position requires the ability to assess and problem-solve, respond to emergencies, and practice within legal and ethical guidelines. Specific OR duties include demonstrating proper preoperative processes, surgical case counting and documentation, aseptic technique, efficient turnover times, obtaining blood products, patient identification verification, surgical site identification and marking, and anticipating surgeon's needs. Participation in a Professional Nursing Organization is also encouraged.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current Registered Nurse License
Current American Heart Assn. BLS and ACLS certifications
Demonstrates current, comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in conformance with recognized nursing standards and department policies including the Patient Bill of Rights and JCAHO regulations, Standards for Nursing Care and the Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities
