About The Position

Nebraska Methodist Health System is seeking experienced Oncology Registered Nurses (RNs) for their 32-bed Oncology Unit (6 South) at Methodist Hospital. This unit specializes in caring for surgical and medical oncology patients in a supportive, team-driven environment. The role offers an opportunity for both new graduates and experienced RNs to grow their skills and make a meaningful impact on patients' lives. A supportive, challenging, and empowering environment is provided, with strong mentorship and exceptional teamwork. Chemotherapy certification is required within 1-2 years of hire.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • For NMH Oncology: Electrocardiogram (EKG) course required.
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
  • Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's ongoing nursing care needs, including data from the patient/significant other(s) and prioritizing data collection according to patient's immediate needs.
  • Develop/review/revise and individualize the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes, collaborating with providers and other clinical disciplines.
  • Implement interventions that are consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner, following nursing protocols and standards of care.
  • Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome, monitoring outcomes and documenting patient response.
  • Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety, learning new skills and equipment within the area's specifications and time frame.
  • Maintain professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization's mission, communicating effectively to solve problems.
  • Initiate action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family or hospital employees.
  • Review, delegate and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the provision of the state's Nurse Practice Act and the Professional Standards of Practice.
  • Fiscally accountable and act professionally responsible for human and other resources, charging accurately for use of supplies and equipment according to policy.
