About The Position

Nebraska Methodist Health System is seeking an RN with higher acuity experience to coordinate and support the Stroke Program. This role is responsible for the maintenance, growth, and continuous improvement of the Stroke Program through collaboration with the Stroke Program Medical Director, interdisciplinary teams, and community partners. Responsibilities include monitoring patient outcomes, conducting chart audits, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and hospital protocols, collecting and analyzing quality data, providing consultation to the healthcare team, and coordinating community outreach activities such as stroke screenings and educational events.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification training required by the completion of orientation.
  • At least three years clinical experience.
  • Experience with stroke patient populations required.
  • Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) or Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) required with 18 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with patients/families, nursing and ancillary staff, and physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination of the maintenance and implementation of nursing standards of care for stroke patients.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and other clinicians in the development of stroke protocols in compliance with current practice guidelines, clinical paths, and outcome studies for stroke patients.
  • Maintains clinical knowledge and skills for the stroke patient populations and provides expert consultation to patient care staff engaged in the care of stroke patients.
  • Maintains the organizational structure and care processes necessary to provide evidenced based stroke care and comply with Joint Commission accreditation standards for Primary Stroke Center.
  • Coordinates on-going staff educational opportunities for all levels and departments interacting with the stroke population.
  • Participate in development and coordination of community screening/education programs for stroke prevention and community education.
  • Collects and analyzes on-going data regarding outcomes of the Stroke Program and required quality/outcome data is submitted to the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Participate in the analysis of process and quality improvement data for the purpose of action planning and change implementation.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the quarterly Stroke Steering Committee meetings to ensure interdisciplinary member participation.
